The Disadvantages Of Homeschooling

There are a few disadvantage of homeschooling and for that reason parents must really weigh the complete thought of making it a reality, considering those disadvantages.

The top three disadvantages of homeschooling are the lack of socialization, the risk that the parent lacks the skill to effectively teach her child, and that some programs are not accredited.

It is important to truly examine them and see, for your child, what is the disadvantage of homeschooling, if any. When it is all said and done, you may decide that there are none.

But for those who are concerned about the social life of a child, they might really see the lack of going to school with other children as a disadvantage of homeschooling.

Some refer to that theory as a myth. You have to consider what is your purpose of sending your child to school.

If socializing is the answer, well, then you really will have trouble with the decision to home school unless you get with the local club of homeschooling parents and do things such as go on field trips with other home schooling parents and students.

There truly are many opportunities for being able to work on your child's social skills so this really is not a disadvantage of homeschooling.

Another disadvantage of homeschooling is having educational deficiencies in the parent that chooses to teach the child.

The parent that is going to be teaching the child should be capable of teaching. They should understand the material that they are presenting.

But if it is a subject that could be quite difficult, such as a higher math or foreign language, then there are options to the home schooling parent and that is to buy the video or dvd type instructional products.

These are wonderful in that the parent has no lesson plans and there is nothing else to go.

When you have a high school student then hopefully he is all ready to go to college.

The last thing you need to find out is that the program of study that you had taught your child while homeschooling, is not accredited by your state.

There are laws and guidelines for most states that will tell you what is accreditied.

But it also tells you the requirements that the state will regulate so that they will count the work that is completed as recognized by the state.

It will still be up to the individual colleges and universities whether they will count home schooling as traditional accredited schools.

Should I Give My Homeschool Graduate a Diploma?

By Lee Binz
Giving a diploma can be a very good idea. Not necessary, but a very good idea. There are times in life when kids are asked, "Are you a high school graduate?" And, "Do you have a high school diploma?" Although you can assure them they are a high school graduate, giving them a paper transcript can emphasize the point, so there is no doubt. And although you can assure them they are a high school graduate, having a diploma can remind them to always say YES if asked if they have one.
